Corrosion Protection

Corrosion Protection for Australian vehicles is a no brainer. The rust paint products available to carry out this protection vary in quality, do your research. Rust Bullet Australasia’s products are first class and recommend these for a multitude of developments.

When purchasing a new vehicle in Australia, there is an opportunity to make it rust proof. It’s common to apply paint and other corrosion protection to cars and trucks along the coast where rusting is rampant. When addressing the automotive needs of your vehicle in Australia, making it as rust proof as possible is recommended.

Corrosion occurs when the iron inside the steel mixes with oxygen in the air. This steel makes up many of the automotive parts in your vehicle. This also happens when moisture accumulates on the underbody of a vehicle.

In either case, rust can develop and spread quickly. Damaging parts and in extreme cases shortening the lifespan of your car or truck.

Advances in Corrosion Protection

There have been several advances in corrosion protection. The use of materials and construction over the past few decades that have boosted rust prevention in vehicles.

Galvanized steel has a layer of zinc which protects it from rusting. Plus, the process of galvanizing steel is inexpensive, so it is commonly used for many automotive parts. The result is that the threat of rust in newer vehicles is far less.

Nevertheless, if the zinc coating is damaged or compromised, it will allow the exposed steel to rust. You will need to wash your vehicle regularly, especially the underbody if you have been driving over salted roads.

Other materials such as aluminium and carbon fibre are being used more commonly in automotive parts. However, they are still limited to certain vehicles, especially carbon fibre which is mostly on high-end cars. For your vehicle, there are steps you can take to help ensure that rust does not take hold.

Wash Vehicle Regularly

The chemicals used to clear roads of ice is considerably more corrosive today compared to twenty or thirty years ago. Combined with the high humidity common along the coastline of Australia helps make rusting more prevalent.

Be sure to wash your vehicle after driving over salted roads and at regular intervals to remove dirt and debris that might be attached to the underbody.

Use Rust Inhibiting Products

Lubricating moving parts such as brake cables, door hinges, the components of the suspension system will help keep them from rusting. It also means lowering the chances that a breakdown occurs which may require an expensive repair.

Rust Paint Australia

You can apply rust paint to the areas of the vehicle where rust may occur. This normally means parts or surfaces that are not made of galvanized steel, aluminium, or carbon fibre.

By applying the proper rust paint, it will provide a layer of protection that will prevent the corrosion from occurring.

Should You Use Corrosion Protection to Rust Proof Your Vehicle in Australia?

Thanks to the advances in materials used in vehicles, rust proofing your car or truck in Australia is easier than ever. Newer vehicles use automotive parts that have corrosion protection.

These are made from galvanized steel, aluminium, or carbon fibre. The need to protect the body of the vehicle is always wise.

Therefore, it is still smart to add lubricants to moving parts such as door hinges and brake cables. Along with coatings over battery connections to ensure they are protected from rust or corrosion.
